I start the drawings for the puzzle pieces series just as I do my regular floral pieces. The difference with the puzzle pieces is that there are multiple layers in each piece. I do a number of drawings on paper. Then I cut out some of the forms and shapes to make the puzzle pieces. The concept was that each level or layer of the drawing could conceivably make one whole, complete piece if all of the puzzle parts were available. The ceramic pieces would have one layer of one drawing and then another layer coming into the picture or on top of the first layer. One of the plates had three layers of pictures on one plate.
Some of the pieces were created with brush work, ceramic pencils and chalk, of air brush to get the images.
